Air gaps: why cut cores hold inductance under load
An air gap raises the effective reluctance, so inductance depends less on core permeability and more on the gap geometry. That makes gapped (cut) cores the standard choice for DC-biased inductors, PFC chokes and detuned reactors.
Gap tolerance matters
Inductance scales roughly with 1/gap, so a ±0.05 mm gap error can shift inductance several percent. We grind faces to controlled height and measure each batch.
FAQ
Can I adjust the gap myself during assembly?
Yes, with shims — but the specified gap is set at our factory. Tell us the target inductance and DC current so we can choose the gap.
